WASHINGTON GREENHAWKS REMOVED, TRI-CITY SUNS ARE IN!

1/12/11 - Effective immediately the Washington GreenHawks organization has been removed from the Atlantic Coast Professional Basketball League (ACPBL) and replaced immediately by the Tri-City Suns owned and operated by Charles ‘Chuck” Thompson.  Charles Thompson is no stranger to minor league professional basketball as he has spent last season helping guide the Tri-City Suns to a playoff berth in the ABA.

The ACPBL received direct text message communication on Saturday night during the GreenHawks home opener from GreenHawks general manager Adam Dantus stating that he was very disappointed with the fan turn out, and that the GreenHawks may not finish the season because of the poor attendance at the home opener.  However, the GreenHawks played the next day (Sunday) on the road in Norfolk, Virginia and gave the league indications that they were going to play through the season.  The ACPBL was then contacted the following day (this past Monday) by Washington GreenHawks owner Tom Doyle stating that his team wished to cease operations immediately in the ACPBL.  Soon after the ACPBL received this e-mail Washington GreenHawks players immediately began calling the nearest ACPBL team known as the Beltway Bombers whom have been generous enough to accept as many of the former Washington GreenHawks players as possible, including the world famous Hugh “Baby Shaq” Jones and Comontae Griffin, both players were widely regarded as the two top player on the Washington GreenHawks roster with both being considered to be potential ACPBL all-stars.

“It all came about suddenly and as a bit of a shock,” stated ACPBL commissioner James Schutz.  “I’m very pleased that within in just 48 hours notice the ACPBL front office was able to land a replacement team to take on the Washington GreenHawks remaining schedule and that a good number of Washington GreenHawks players were able to find a new team to continue with their ACPBL playing careers.”
